  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups milk (2% or whole)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
  • 2 cups assorted fresh berries

Instructions

  2. Cut the brioche into 1-inch cubes and toast on a baking sheet until lightly golden.
  3. In a large bowl, combine toasted bread with melted butter.

  5. Prepare an 8×8 inch or 9×9 inch baking dish by coating it with butter.
  6. Layer half of the bread in the dish, followed by half of the berries. Repeat layers.
  7. Pour custard mixture over the bread and berries, pressing down gently to submerge.
