Ingredients
- 1 loaf sliced brioche (17.6 ounces)
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 4 eggs
- 2 1/4 cups milk (2% or whole)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
- 2 cups assorted fresh berries
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut the brioche into 1-inch cubes and toast on a baking sheet until lightly golden.
- In a large bowl, combine toasted bread with melted butter.
- In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon zest.
- Prepare an 8×8 inch or 9×9 inch baking dish by coating it with butter.
- Layer half of the bread in the dish, followed by half of the berries. Repeat layers.
- Pour custard mixture over the bread and berries, pressing down gently to submerge.
- Bake uncovered for 45 to 50 minutes until set but slightly jiggly in the center.
- Allow cooling for at least 20 minutes before serving.
