Ingredients
- 500 g All-Purpose Flour (or gluten-free flour)
- 50 g Sugar (or coconut sugar)
- 10 g Salt
- 25 g Fresh Yeast (or active dry yeast)
- 3 medium Eggs (or flax eggs for vegan)
- 100 g Unsalted Butter (or vegan butter)
- 500 ml Whole Milk (or almond/soy milk)
- 1 whole Vanilla Pod (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract)
- 4 large Egg Yolks (or cornstarch for egg-free custard)
- 30 g Cornstarch (optional)
- 100 g Mini Chocolate Chips
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm milk and mix with dry ingredients along with eggs. Knead in butter until smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- For the custard filling, heat milk with half the sugar and vanilla pod seeds until simmering. In another bowl, whisk remaining sugar, egg yolks, and cornstarch; temper with hot milk before thickening on medium heat.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Roll out dough into circles, fill with custard and chocolate chips, then fold over.
- Bake on lined sheets for about 12 minutes until golden brown.
