  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 1½ cups cold unsalted butter (cubed)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup ice water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 6 to 7 cups sliced apples (peeled and cored)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. For the crust, combine flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until coarse crumbs form.
  2. Mix eggs, ice water, and lemon juice in another bowl; add to flour mixture and stir until dough forms.
  3. Split the dough into two pieces, wrap each in plastic wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a baking sheet.
  5. Roll out the larger dough piece to fit the baking sheet; press into place.
  6. Toss apple slices with sugars, cornstarch, spices, lemon juice, and vanilla; spread over the crust.
  7. Roll out the second dough piece on top of the filling; cut vents for steam.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown; cool before glazing.
