  • 2 cups apples (cored, peeled, and chopped)
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 14 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into pieces)
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add chopped apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, water, and salt. Cook for about 5 minutes until apples soften slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Blend in pieces of room temperature butter until crumbly.
  4. Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan. Spread the apple filling evenly over it and crumble the remaining oat mixture on top.
  5. Bake for about 50 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
