  • Total Time: 55 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables & Fruits

1 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups sliced carrots
2 cups sliced sweet potatoes (halved and quartered)
2 cups diced apples

Seasonings

1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons salt (divided)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons rubbed sage (divided)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
A sprinkle of nutmeg

Protein & Base

2 pounds ground lean turkey
3 tablespoons tomato paste
2 teaspoons chili powder

Tomatoes & Beans

3 cups crushed tomatoes
2 cups strained tomatoes (or marinara sauce)
12 cans kidney beans (drained and rinsed)

Instructions

  • Cook the Vegetables
Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the carrots and sweet potatoes and cook for about 5–7 minutes until they begin to soften.
  • Brown the Turkey
Add the ground turkey to the pot and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
  • Add Seasonings
Stir in onion powder, garlic powder, 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, 1 teaspoon sage, cinnamon, nutmeg, and chili powder. Mix well so the meat and vegetables are evenly coated with spices.
  • Add Tomato Base
Add the tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, and strained tomatoes (or marinara sauce). Stir everything together until well combined.
  • Add Apples and Beans
Mix in the diced apples and kidney beans. Add the remaining salt and sage.
  • Simmer the Chili
Bring the chili to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and cook for about 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender and the flavors are well combined.
  • Serve
Ladle the chili into bowls and serve warm. Enjoy it on its own or with bread, rice, or cornbread for a complete meal.
