Ingredients
Scale
- 2-3 cups whole milk
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream
- ½ cup high-quality cocoa powder
- 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
- ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Heat the whole milk and heavy cream in a medium-sized heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat until steaming—avoid boiling.
- In a small bowl, whisk together cocoa powder and grated chocolate. Gradually add about ½ cup of the hot milk mixture to prevent lumps.
- Pour the cocoa mixture back into the saucepan while whisking continuously. Add sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
- Simmer on low heat for 3-5 minutes until thickened to coat the back of a spoon, adjusting thickness with more milk if necessary.
- Serve in heat-resistant mugs and top with whipped cream, ground cinnamon, or chocolate shavings.
