Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp corn syrup
- 5 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch slices
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- For the caramel base, melt unsalted butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat until bubbling and thickened. Pour into the bottom of a greased baking dish.
- Arrange slices of French bread over the caramel base in the baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, salt, and optional cinnamon. Pour evenly over the bread slices, pressing down gently to soak.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and custardy in the center. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
