  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 140 g unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 100 g neutral oil
  • 283 g whole milk (room temp)
  • 2 eggs (room temp)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 227 g unsalted butter (room temp)
  • 12 oz cream cheese (cold)
  • 340 g powdered sugar (sifted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two round baking pans by greasing and flouring them.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and spices until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat room temperature butter and dark brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add neutral oil, whole milk, eggs, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture; mix until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually combine dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just blended.
  6. Divide batter evenly between the baking pans and bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool before frosting with cream cheese icing made by mixing room temperature butter with cold cream cheese and powdered sugar.
